Three New Zealanders who met working restaurants back home, Laura Harper-Hinton, Miles Kirby, and Chris Ammermann, opened the first at Exmouth Market in 2010. Beans from cooperatives including Jovemcafe in Guatemala and Yirgacheffe's YCFCU are roasted at Lambworks on a Loring Peregrine S70 that uses up to 80% less gas than direct flame.
Caravan became a B Corp in 2024, the year Jamie Strachan joined as Head of Coffee after nearly ten years at Dark Arts. The founders completed a management buyout in March 2025.
