Cameron McClure, Peter Hall and James Gurnsey opened in September 2005. Hardly anyone came for six months, then word spread and it was making up to 700 coffees a day. Dark Arts Coffee is now the house roaster.
The shop is a narrow room on cobbled Berwick Street behind a black-painted front. A curved black counter runs along one side, and a bench outside gives a few seats on the pavement.
